A group of students with extraordinary musical capabilities entertained patients, staff and guests Wednesday as part of a local concert series.  The School of Rock Charlotte serenaded other children, parents, staff members and other guests as part of the Amped-4-A-Cure, Inc. quarterly concert series entitled, “Music That Heals”. The concert was held in the lobby of the Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC.

The “Music That Heals” program is an initiative from Amped-4-A-Cure, Inc. to highlight the need for cancer research. Amped-4-A-Cure, Inc. also spearheads the “Music Therapy Initiative”. Within the confines of that program, young patients are able to listen to their favorite music on music players while undergoing such medical procedures as chemotherapy.

Students from School of Rock Charlotte brought perfect pitch, tempo and rhythms that were kaleidoscopes of musical color for the audience. Check out what makes these musicians so special!

Wednesday’s performance was also streamed, live for those young patients who were not able to physically attend the concert.

Wednesday’s “Music That Heals” concert was the second in the quarterly concert series; Amped-4-A-Cure, Inc. began the program in December of 2010.

Amped-4-A-Cure, Inc.‘s President/CEO Xavier Grier says that it is encouraging to see the smiles and laughs from children who may be otherwise suffering due to physical ailments: “Events such as these give children an opportunity to laugh, play and enjoy the universal language of music,” said Grier. “Today’s concert was tremendously touching… children giving back to other children… what sweeter sound is there than that?”

School of Rock Charlotte is an institution, comprised of students from 11 to 18 years of age, who exemplify extraordinary musical talents. They study the craft of music and perform live in various venues.  The time they spent volunteering their services and offering their musical abilities Wednesday,  was time they as well as parents felt was well spent. Smiles beamed from parents to grandparents alike.

For audience members, in the lobby of the Levine Children’s Hospital, those young and young at heart, the universal language of the music sung seemed to resonate peace, joy and contentment… and for Amped-4-A-Cure, Inc. it was a goal successfully and sweetly met.
